The story of how Bruce Springsteen became the Boss
Springsteen, who was born in New Jersey in 1949, grew up listening to Elvis Presley and The Beatles. He was also influenced by Bob Dylan and The Rolling Stones' work. Springsteen began playing the guitar in high school and quickly founded The Castiles. The band played in local clubs and taverns but had little commercial success. Springsteen's debut album, "Greetings from Asbury Park, New Jersey," was published in 1972. Although the album was not an instant success, critics lauded its honest lyrics and unique sound.
