007 The OG
"The Names Bond...."
The James Bond theme in the store continues this week with an update to our art print of Sean Connery.
James Bond was created in 1953 by writer Ian Fleming, who featured him in twelve novels and two short-story collections. 007 made his big screen debut in the 1962 movie Dr No, starring Sean Connery as the titular character. Bond has been played by six actors (Connery, Moore, Lazenby, Dalton, Brosnan and Craig) and as of 2021 has appeared in 25 official Eon produced movies.
With such a long period of time some of the older movies and novels are hard on the eyes and ears of modern audiences with its attitudes to sexism and political views. However Bond is a British Icon and provides pure escapism and fun.
The movies always bring a number of traditions with them including big theme songs winning 3 academy awards for best song, glamorous locations, cars, gadgets, style, fashion, Bond girls and the all important barrel sequence.
This is one of the first digital art prints that I produced and obviously means quite a bit to me. I started out with a base sketch (which can be seen above) capturing the classic introduction of 007 in the film Dr No. From the sketch I then made a digital painting which is now available to purchase.
The scene takes place in a casino where Bond is both gambling and seducing (winning at both) before finally lighting up and in reply to the question of his name, utters the line "Bond, James Bond". Its a perfect piece of cinema history with the announcement of his name played perfectly in rhythm with John Barry's score.
