We love go travelling and we have been very fortunate to have explored many parts of the world. A few years ago a little thing called covid-19 hit the world and caused a pandemic and the end of our travels for a bit or so we thought.
In 2020, we decided to buy a campervan (actually a micro camper made from a fiat doblo). Now we had some transport and some accommodation on wheels, we needed to find somewhere to go go and the perfect place we found was Scotland and the nc500 route.
So the three of us and all our gear crammed into the fiat, and began the 2000 mile journey to Scotland, the Highlands, and the nc500.
We instantly fell in love with the landscape and reminded us very much of places we saw in New Zealand, around every corner was a breathtaking view. We travelled through the loch's, stopped off to see Nessie, the mountainous and stunning area of Glencoe up towards the Highlands.
It's such a varied landscape, after leaving the beauty of the mountains through some moody moors, rugged coast and set up camp by the beach.
Going anti clockwise is really good way of doing it as it gets prettier along the west coast plus you can finish it on the belash na ba road which is a single track pass and you should have got to used to the roads by then.
Miss out John o groats not worth the detour, Ullapool sea food shack is great and could have eaten there for days.
If you go from sheigra to inverewe go via the wee mad road and along the way there is a town with a beach and has a lovely waterfall. There are hidden gems of beaches everywhere, it's white sands and are tucked out the way, our favourite was not far inverewe gardens which are also lovely.
Of course driving can be a bit hairy but if you take your time and be sensible it is quite an experience to enjoy. Of course it would be remiss of me not to mention the reason for this blog, the lovely company of nature you have along this beautiful part of the world. From Great stags to eagles and of course our favourite furry friends the Highland cattle!
Scotland will be forever in our hearts, the people, the food and the landscape make it a truly fantastic place. We enjoyed it we went back again this year to visit the Cairngorms national park.
This artwork of the lovely Highland cattle was created first as a sketch. It was then digitally transferred, DP in the style of oil on canvas and then printed via Giclee.
