In 2021 a movie based on a 14th-century poem was released the epic fantasy adventure based on the timeless Arthurian legend, THE GREEN KNIGHT tells the story of Sir Gawain (Dev Patel), King Arthur's reckless and headstrong nephew, who embarks on a daring quest to confront the eponymous Green Knight, a gigantic emerald-skinned stranger and tester of men. It's a journey to define his character and prove his worth in the eyes of his family and kingdom by facing the ultimate challenger.
In the Poem and the film do diverge at different points and the ending of the film is more ambiguous to the outcome of Gawain's neck. In the Poem Gawain visits the Lord and Lady and manages to resist temptation however he takes the sash that is promised to protect him from harm but doesn't mention this to the Lord as promised.
In the film he gives into temptation almost immediately and generally acts more cowardly and the Lady even tells Gawain "your no Knight". My interpretation is that in the 2021 movie, Gawain fails every test put before him except at the end when he embraces his fate, this is enough to make him worthy of a Knight but not enough to save his head!
