Throwback Thursday

"They can be a great people, Kal-El; they wish to be. They only lack the light to show the way. For this reason above all, their capacity for good, I have sent them you... my only son"

On this day in 1938 an alien was introduced to the world, Superman made is debut in comic book form.

The first issue of the original run of the comic book/magazine series Action Comics was titled Action Comics #1, it contained various comic book heroes for the first time, most notably Superman, which was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.

Action comic

It is widely regarded as the world's most expensive comic book one sold for over 3million! as well as the start of the superhero genre.

I never really was a Superman comic book fan I was more of a Spidey reader, but absolutely loved the Christopher Reeve movies.

To me he was superman and if it was on tv the vcr would be set to record. As a side note I also rented the cheaply made and pretty naff Spider-Man movies of the 70s and 80s which I'm guessing was made to cash in on the success of Superman the movie.

Christopher Reeve said This about the character "What makes Superman a hero is not that he has power, but that he has the wisdom and the maturity to use the power wisely"

This week's sketch......
