A Meme is an idea, behaviour, or style that spreads by means of imitation from person to person within a culture and often carries symbolic meaning representing a particular phenomenon or theme.
Meme History is a sporadic ongoing collection, celebrating some famous memes.
Although some experts have traced the concept of a meme to hundreds of years ago, the majority believe that British evolutionary scientist Richard Dawkins is responsible for its current meaning. In his 1976 book The Selfish Gene, he defined a meme as a cultural object or notion that replicates, changes, and spreads from one person to another.
Meme would subsequently be used to describe an endless variety of various phrases, pictures, sounds, and films that were all sent through the internet in an effort to rapidly and succinctly express ideas, and thoughts which show off the general stupidity of the human race.
One of the first shared internet memes was of a scary computer-rendered dancing baby, which frankly was weird then and it's even weirder/scary now. What's even more bizarre now these throw-away amusing ideas are now reaching a huge amount of money as NFT which are almost a meme in itself.
This brings us to Mega Pint of wine and the reason for starting this very occasional collection. I had no interest in the Depp v Heard trial, none of my business and wasn't bothered who 'won' (spoilers it's always the lawyers). However a good friend of mine kept sending me various memes of Depp and the Mega-Pint, especially on a Friday or when we had a few beers! so I thought I could put my own spin on memes and show it off on some tees.
From Knowyourmeme:
Mega Pint of Red Wine refers to a moment from the Amber Heard vs. Johnny Depp trial where one of Heard's attorneys asks Depp if he poured himself a "mega pint of red wine" after showing a video Heard recorded of Depp angrily yelling and slamming several cabinets. The clip went viral shortly after, inspiring memes about "mega pints" using the reference as a catchphrase in late April and May 2022.
Also as this is all about 2 months too late to actually be relevant or generate traffic it's basically a little in-joke for us however, labelling it Meme History kinda gets around the whole I'm too old to keep up with the latest trends issue...
