After travelling through wales, visiting St Winifred and having a feast at the lords castle (or a chinese at a nearby campsite) the next day we completed our journey....
Wahoo, we made it to Luds Church and the end of our Green Knight Trail. What a great ending it turned out to be, plus we kept our heads!

Lud’s Church is a deep, moss-covered chasm full of history, myths and dark green wherever you look; and to walk down its stone steps deep into the cleft is to escape into another world…

Close to the Roaches in Leek and through Staffordshire’s Back Forest, is Lud’s Church. An 18 metre deep chasm created in the Roaches’ gritstone caused by a giant landslip, which over the ages has been covered from top to bottom in vibrant moss.

Walking through the forest there is a opening and as you descend into a chasm which is 18m high the atmosphere changes and the temperature drops and your greated with something that wouldn't be out of place in King Kongs Skull island!

pretty awesome and very impressive, It had rained the night (Knight) before and the entrance was a little bit boggy so we were glad to have decent walking shoes. Having left early to do the walk, I dont know if it gets busy later but we had the place to ourselves.

Lud’s Church is not only interesting from an outstanding piece of natural beauty, it’s also know for it’s history as in the Fifteenth Century it was used as a secret place for worship for people who would have otherwise been prosecuted.  The people using this deep chasm as a church were the Lollards, followers of the early church reformer and so-called ‘heretic’, John Wycliffe.

We walked back And headed over to Bakewell for a well deserved sausage roll and of course a pudding 😁
And all with grass o’er-grown, in clumps its form that hide,
’T was hollow all within, e’en as a cavern old,
Or crevice of a crag—nor might its use be told
right well—
Be this the Green Chapel?

I wanted to capture the image and portrait of the Movie The Green Knight in the style of a painting. Also, I tried to incorporate a lighter version with a bit of otherworldliness with the space. Using our visit to Luds Church on our road trip as inspiration, create a mother earth vibe with the plants and flowers. It was pencilled, inked by hand and then digitally painted, coloured and then distressed.
