They Live

So it's Black Friday today the anti Christ..mas for all independent retailers and craftsman.

John Carpenter was always ahead of the curve and made movies which had deeper meanings aside from being a blast to watch.

One of this lesser known ones was They live, a brilliant take on consumerism and a critique of how the public don't question authority.

It follows Nada (Roddy Piper), a wanderer without a purpose in life, who discovers a pair of sunglasses capable of revealing the truth about the world. As he walks the streets of Los Angeles, Nada notices that both the media and the government are full of subliminal messages designed to keep the population under control, and that the majority of the social elite are skull-faced aliens bent on world dominance. With this shocking revelation, Nada fights to liberate humanity from mind-controlling aliens, by chewing bubblegum and kicking ass.
